Summary:

The principles and strategic steps of a simple nutrition message.

High prevalences of protein-energy malnutrition, anemia, vitamin A and iodine deficiencies have persisted since their identification by the National Nutrition Survey of Pakistan, 1966. While diarrhoea can be managed with oral rehydration therapy and iodine deficiency prevented with ionization of salts, no simple tool for management of malnutrition is available. Strategies vary. In Pakistan, where the literacy rate is low but food grains are sufficient, precise and correct messages about nutrition education can potentially reduce the problem.
